Patch testing is a diagnostic method used to identify allergic skin reactions caused by specific substances. Small amounts of potential allergens are applied to patches, which are then placed on the skin—usually the back—for 48 hours. After removal, the skin is examined for signs of redness, swelling, or irritation.
